Hunters: Enter the Darkness

Hunters is a Gothic-themed miniatures game inspired by League of Legends, which in turn was inspired by one of my all-time favorite games, Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft 3 mod. In Hunters:Enter the Darkness players control their Champions and navigate the modular boards, fighting Minions which move in a programmed fashion.

A player’s Champion can be advanced in multiple ways. Characters have certain builds as described on the Kickstarter Campaign page:

Tactical Builds: Players may build each Champion multiple ways based an team composition and playstyle. From the Base Set, Champions have 2 unique “Builds”. Each Build has its own focus:

  • Tanks can stay on the front line longer than others, with a focus on controlling the board.
  • Assassins focus on dealing damage fast and hard.
  • Supports focus on helping others do their job better.
  • Specialists less like its own build, but rather a tool box that augments the others or gives unique abilities.”

“Hunters: Enter the Darkness brings the excitement and tactical combat of a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) video game – a genre made popular by the design of DOTA, League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm – to your table!”

I’m always excited for metal dice on Kickstarter, and this campaign looks especially good! The dice are available in a variety of metals, including aluminum, copper, tungsten and… meteorite? That’s right, you can own dice made from a meteorite!

The campaign has a lot of stretch goals and add ons, and the dice themselves are gorgeous. There’s a ton of package options too, making the choice of which set to get even more difficult. Here’s what a set of red anodized aluminum dice look like:

Z War One: Damnation

Z War One is a miniatures game where players fight the undead in a comic book, apocalyptic setting. From the Z War One Kickstarter Campaign page:

Z War One is the world’s first episodic, comic book miniature board game. It blends classic survival horror & RPG themes with intense tactical combat, to provide a cinematic and truly unique gaming experience. The Z War One Issue #1 box set contains the extended first issue of the comic, along with the base set of models & boards you need to start playing the game. Each subsequent comic book acts as an expansion pack, continuing the game’s epic story, whilst introducing new miniatures, game mechanics & environments along the way.”

The game looks great and is reminiscent of Zombicide, one of the most successful Kickstarter board game series of all time. The inclusion of the comic book makes it even more appealing and immersive.

“Players take control of one of 4 main heroes, completing chapters and gaining vital experience points which can then be used to upgrade their character. The game mechanics are simple to learn but difficult to master, with some chapters requiring multiple attempts and a lot of strategic planning to conquer.”

I have a feeling that this one is really going to appeal to The Walking Dead graphic novel and Zombicide fans. Click here to visit the Z War One Kickstarter Campaign page!
