Let me tell you, I am incredibly excited for the upcoming collectible card/dice game from Fantasy Flight Games, Star Wars: Destiny. For those unfamiliar I’ll let FFG’s website give you the 411:
“In every game of Star Wars: Destiny, you’ll gather your small team of iconic characters and battle to defeat your foes, using your dice and the cards in your deck. The last player with characters left standing wins the game, but to successfully outmaneuver your opponent, you’ll need to carefully consider your options and enhance your deck with new dice and cards. If you ever wondered who would win a duel between two teams of heroes and villains from the Star Wars universe, there’s no better way to find out than with Star Wars: Destiny.”
The game will launch with 2 starter sets, a Rey set and a Kylo Ren set. The game will also be available in booster packs that each have 5 cards, including a rare or legendary card with a corresponding die. The game plays much like Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn where players alternate taking turns within a round. Players have to choose when to spend their dice, play cards, activate abilities, and even when to end their turn to gain control of the battlefield. Timing is everything and a player must plan ahead to be successful.
Fantasy Flight has released some great articles recently, each one focusing on a different type of card. I’m also including a link to the full card list on BGG. If you’re excited about Star Wars: Destiny then take a moment to check out these links and/or watch the trailer. You’ll be glad you did!
