Kickstarter Report #2

Kickstarter Report

Another peek at some interesting looking board games currently in the middle of their Kickstarter campaigns! If they sound cool to you please be sure to check them out and consider supporting them.This is an unsolicited service, may I remind everyone, that I started just to raise awareness of new games and support those in our hobby who need a little help making the next great board game (or accessory) a reality! The entry titles are links to the Kickstarter Campaign pages, and there are links at the end of each entry as well!

THMiniatures Scenery Terrain

I have never allowed myself to get into true tabletop miniature games like Warhammer 40K or Hordes/Warmachine, but I have ALWAYS wanted to! Were I to get into one my house would soon become NOTHING BUT a storage unit/painting station/play area for the game. That being said, and despite my absence from that niche of gaming, I have always LOVED tabletop miniature terrain. I saw this kickstarter campaign and loved their product and their pledge package model.

Instead of getting a predetermined set of terrain, the pledge levels are the amount you spent (plus a bonus) dollar amount to spend on the terrain pieces of your choice. The campaign lists the dollar amounts of each piece so backers get to mix and match. Were I to play any tabletop miniatures games this would be a ‘must-back’ project for me!

Here’s a photo of one of the ‘Fortifications’ pieces as well…

Above and Below

Above and Below is a worker placement game mixed with a storytelling game that looks amazing! It reminds me of a whimsical, fantasy Agricola where you can expand underground as well as build above ground… Wait a second… Nevermind, we won’t go there! Here’s a description from the Kickstarter Campaign;

Your last village was ransacked by barbarians. You barely had time to pick up the baby and your favorite fishing pole before they started the burning and pillaging. You wandered over a cruel desert, braved frozen peaks, and even paddled a log across a rough sea, kicking at the sharks whenever they got too close, the baby strapped tightly to your back.

Then you found it! The perfect place to make your new home. But as soon as you had the first hut built, you discovered a vast network of caverns underground, brimming with shiny treasures, rare resources, and untold adventure. How could you limit your new village to the surface? You immediately start organizing expeditions and building houses underground as well as on the surface.

With any luck, you’ll build a village even stronger than your last– strong enough, even, to turn away the barbarians the next time they come knocking.”

The artwork looks amazing, even in its prototype state, and underground expansion of one’s village sounds super fun and in depth! During the subterranean exploration stories unfold where a combination of cards from the Exploration Deck and dice rolls decide exploration scenarios. After a brief explanation of the scenario, the player gets to make a choice leading to different outcomes dependent on said choice and subsequent dice rolls.

Here is a video by Rahdo showing the gameplay mechanics at work!
